
Since COVID-19 we have all faced difficult times, however, supporting your family financially shouldn’t be a factor. Under the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), employees whose employers are covered are to provide:
• Job protection
• Continuation of group health insurance coverage
• Unpaid leave for medical reasons including care for specified family members, which may include the flu where complications arise
• Alternately, paid leave may be covered under FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Response Act)
• If your leave qualifies as FMLA-protected leave, paid sick and vacation/personal leave is an option per statute
You are not protected by FMLA if you take leave for the purpose of avoiding exposure to the flu.
